First Academy's Michael Timpson Jr's season cut short due to injury First Academy's Boys Team State Title hopes diminish greatly
Defending Boys 1A 100m State Champion Michael Timpson Jr. has ended his season due to a nagging injury and he won't be competing at the 1A State Championships on Friday. Timpson is an integral part of the Royals Boys team and their aspirations for a 2015 State Title after finishing 2nd last year to Westminster Academy by 6.5 points. It was highly anticipated that Westminster Academy and First Academy would be battling for a coveted State Championship atop the podium again in 2015.
So far this year Michael had clocked times of 10.50 (NWI) and 21.81 (+3.5) early in the season at the Jeff Wentworth Invitational and Osceola Kowboy Invitational respectively, showing great promise for a bright season ahead. A University of Florida signee, Michael most recently competed at the 1A Regional meet in the preliminaries where he went 10.78 (+1.5) in the 100m and 22.51 (-0.8) before calling his season over due to the nagging injuries.
First Academy's Coach Argro knows he will need to regroup with the loss of Michael for the season.
"Mike's injury is a devastating blow to our team, but one I have been preparing for behind the scenes for awhile now so we will be as prepared as we possibly can be going into the state meet. Even with having a healthy Mike, the state meet was always going to be a great challenge for us. Westminster Academy has a great team, they are well coached, and they, as well as every other team, will present a great challenge. The only difference now is that challenge has become much bigger losing Mike. His injury as far as I know from speaking with his father should have no bearing on his future as an athlete at the University of Florida. This summer I'm sure his family will find him the best care possible and he will be in great hands next year with Coach Mike "Mouse" Holloway and bounce back as the athlete I know he's capable of being.
